Its time for round two of the 30 MILE DIET!
Again, here are some pointers on round two.

1. EAT LOCALLY!
Eat food that is produced within 30 miles of your home. Eating local food supports fair trade and is good for you, your town, and your environment.

2. EAT SEASONALLY!
Plan your meals around what food is in season, rather than what you want to eat. This will make it easier to stick to your diet.

3. RESEARCH!
Ask storeowners what local food they carry and what is new to the store. You may find a product that you never knew was locally produced!

Have fun everyone and keep me posted!

We are about half way through the first 30 MILE DIET week!  I hope everyone is still going strong.

Great food for a GREAT reason!  My favorite meal is breakfast: local bread with butter that tastes home made, fruit and milk. SO delicious!

I would love to hear about your week!

IT'S TIME!!!  This is your week to go on the 30 mile diet!

I started today and will be continuing until next wednesday. This morning I had a delicious local blueberry muffin! Yum!

Send me your comments on the 30 mile diet, or a recipe you're enjoying and would like to share.

"Before you've finished your breakfast this morning, you'll have relied on half the world." - Martin Luther King

Did you enjoy a mug of hot coffee this morning? Eat chocolate chip pancakes? Admire a vase of store bought flowers on your kitchen counter? These products were most likely created by workers in least developed countries. Unfortunately, these workers aren't being paid appropriately for their hard work. They are also working in dangerous conditions. 2/3 of Columbia's flower-workers suffer from pesticide exposure, which leads to dizziness and problems with blood pressure. Workers don't get paid even half of what consumers in countries such as the United States pay for them. Everyone should be treated equally and fairly and that is what fair trade is about! Buying fair trade products ensures that workers are being paid fairly and are working in safe conditions. There are other ways you can support fair trade besides buying fair trade products. A simple and effective way is to eat locally!

By eating locally you not only support fair trade, but you support your community, eat healthy and are economically efficient. For these reasons I encourage you to go on the 30 MILE DIET during the last week of July and the last week of August.  You don't have to give up carbohydrates or count calories on this diet! All you need to do is buy food that is produced within 30 miles of your home.
     GO FOR IT!
